This was my husbandβs and my first time to eat here and we will definitely be back! Clean place, very open dining area but tables were comfortably separated. Catfish, fries, okra and hush puppies were all excellent. The portions are large, the catfish is MS Delta and the beef is locally grown in Stone county, and neither are frozen before cooking. My side salad was large, fresh and delicious. Our server (Kelsey) was delightful. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and sourcing, specials, etc.
Overview
If youβve ever driven down 8161 Woolmarket Rd, Biloxi, MS 39532, United States, youβve probably noticed the steady stream of cars outside Flatheads And Bottom Feeders. I stopped in on a humid Gulf Coast afternoon after a local friend insisted it was the place for serious seafood and Southern comfort food. He wasnβt exaggerating. From the moment I walked in, the laid-back diner vibe felt genuine-no frills, just the comforting hum of conversation, the smell of fried catfish, and servers who clearly know half the room by name.
The menu leans hard into what the Mississippi Gulf Coast does best: fresh seafood, hearty portions, and bold Cajun flavors. I ordered the fried catfish platter, which came with hand-cut fries and house-made coleslaw. The fish was crisp on the outside, flaky and tender inside, and not greasy-a detail that matters. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, seafood is one of the healthiest protein sources when prepared properly, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and lean nutrients. Here, they manage to balance indulgence with quality sourcing. You can taste that the ingredients havenβt been sitting around.
On another visit, I tried the shrimp poβ boy, and this is where the kitchenβs consistency stood out. The shrimp were seasoned evenly, not just dusted for show. The bread was toasted just enough to hold up against the sauce without falling apart. That might sound small, but any chef will tell you that texture balance-crunch, softness, moisture-is what separates average from memorable. The National Restaurant Association often emphasizes that repeat business depends on consistency, and judging by the repeat customers I saw, this place understands that principle well.
Beyond seafood, the diner offers burgers, grilled plates, and daily specials that rotate based on availability. One regular told me they never miss the Friday crawfish boil during peak season. That kind of community-driven loyalty isnβt easy to earn. Reviews from locals often highlight both the generous portions and the friendly staff, and I experienced the same. My server checked in just enough without hovering, refilled drinks quickly, and offered honest recommendations rather than pushing the priciest item.
Cleanliness and food safety also matter, especially in casual dining spots. In my experience, the dining area and restrooms were well maintained, and the open view into the prep area added a layer of transparency. While I donβt have direct access to their internal sourcing records, the freshness of the seafood suggests reliable local suppliers-a common practice in Biloxi, where proximity to the Gulf allows restaurants to work with regional fisheries.
What really gives this diner character, though, is the atmosphere. Itβs the kind of place where work boots sit next to business casual, and nobody feels out of place. Families gather around large tables, and solo diners chat with staff at the counter. That mix tells you something important: the restaurant isnβt chasing trends; itβs serving its community. In an era where many eateries focus heavily on aesthetics for social media, this spot puts flavor first.
If youβre scanning restaurant reviews looking for authentic Gulf Coast seafood in Biloxi, this location on Woolmarket Road deserves a serious look. The combination of a well-rounded menu, attentive service, and reliable cooking techniques creates a dining experience that feels honest. Iβve returned multiple times, brought out-of-town guests, and each visit has delivered the same satisfying result. In a crowded dining scene, that kind of steady performance speaks louder than flashy marketing ever could.

Run to this restaurant! The food was delicious, catfish fried in cornmeal and everything was fresh. Our waitress was so sweet and personable and very attentive. The owner was very nice, explained where his meat comes from and how things are done. On the other side is a bar and there was live music that night. They do have pool tables and bags. I would definitely go back. I ordered fried oysters and shrimp with okra and asparagus.
Fantastic peeps with amazing eats!! You can't go wrong.. They are serving starting at 11:00 a.m to 10 p.m. Lili was our waitress and she gave us a small review of the business's history and fan favs. If you are in the Woolmarket area go enjoy these fine folks with a laid back atmosphere. We can't wait until Tuesday for half price wings from 4 to close with a few cocktails.

Excellent food/service! I had the shrimp/oyster combo platter. Pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. Delicious!
I was greeted by Ms. Debbie as soon as I walked in. Ms. Debbie seems like shes never met a stranger in her life. She asked if I wanted to sit in the restaurant or the bar. I told her that ive never been here before, so she gave me the grand tour and let me decide where I wanted to sit. She is very proud of the restaurant, and and what it has to offer, and it shows. Janelle was my waitress and she was very attentive and friendly. Im a slow eater and get distracted doing work on my phones. She cheked multiple times to make sure that the food was OK, and offered to fix any issues if there were any. She too truly seems to love taking care of people. The food was excellent. I (slowly) ate all of it. I will be back the next time im in the area.
